Antique Early Victorian English Gilt Metal Deep Cut Banded Agate Heart Brooch
A wonderful, good sized antique English, gilt metal heart-shaped brooch set with a stunning natural banded agate hardstone heart. It's fabulously deeply carved, with a natural double white lightning flash within. It has a thick, unctuous type of lustre that means you can see into the surface of the stone even though it appears opaque jet black. It dates from around 1840/50 and is in very good, fully wearable condition throughout, with a replaced pin back and one or two marks to the mount - perfectly normal for a piece of this age. It weighs 20.7 grams and measures 33 x 34 mm, and 14 mm thick.
The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter.
